What are reef aquarium lights for?
I bought a 55 gallon tank, and had this asome huge light fixture. Butthe lights were not the original white light, they were like blue ishor purple ish. Saw this stamp on them and it said " Coral Sun" . Wich Iguess is the brand. Any ways, I looked up reef lights on google andpics with Salt Water aquariums with blueish light appeared. So I guessthe lights I have must be for something in a saltwater aquarium. But Idont have saltwater I have fresh water, will this light hurt myfish?? Or cause damage to the decor or plastic plants? I was planningon getting live plants, will this light help plants grow? Or do I needthe white floracent light?? What are these lights used for exactly??

Is it safe to use fluorescent aquarium lights in an industrial light reflector/hood?
i already have a hanging fluorescent light hood in my garage, and i would like to use it for my 90g fresh water aquarium as they are the same lenghts. would it be okay to use aquarium lights in a normal household fluroscent light hood fixture hood whatever you wana call it?

Where can I get decent priced aquarium lighting?
Fresh water tank that is 30 in long.All i need is a strip light, ive done some looking online and seen them anywhere from 45 100 dollars.Anyone know of any sites that are any better?Thanks Ill have to check those out.
Can you change the light out of an aquarium light fixture?
What I want to do is change the default light it came with to something higher in the 100watt range. Do I need to have a specific light fixture. Or are the lights interchangeable?Im not sure what type of light its not very bright if that helps any. The light is the tube lighting with the two pins on both sides.
Question about Hagen Marine-Glo aquarium light?
I was thinking about getting a Hagen Marine Glo light bulb for my FRESHWATER tank because i really like the way they look. Will this bulb have any effect on a freshwater tank even though it was made for saltwater aquariums?
Can I use a table lamp instead of an aquarium light?
I'm breeding bettas, and you need light so the male can see if any fry fall out of the bubble nest. I want to use a table lamp instead, but unsure as I heard it could heat the water too much.Will this happen if I keep it at a distance? My bulb is one of those energy savers and is 15W.I already have my heater on at 25 degrees C.Thanks so much.My tank is 27L.
Planted aquarium lighting question?
the lights are so darn expensive...but today i saw in walmart something called growlight...it says it uses 17watts of energy but puts out 75 watts of light. .....will this work for my 55 gallon tank if i use 2 or 3 of them?it was only 10bucks. im trying to keep healthy plants. or do i need those compact florescent or high output florescent bulbs?

my tank has few java ferns and anubias plants and my aquarium light broke but i have a table lamp. can i use the table lamp for my plants?? is there any different from aquarium lights and table lamp lights??
Aquarium Lighting: LED vs. Moonlight?
What's the difference between LED and Moonlight for my aquarium lighting? At first I thought they were the same thing until I read one user's statement saying " Moonlight is better than LED." I have a 55 gal that I want to add this kind of lighting to. Should I buy straight from ebay or do a DIY? What type kind do you recommend? Thanks
Aquarium lighting for a 55 gallon planted tank?
i've been keeping fish for about 5 years now im 14 , blush and the simple plastic plants aren't enough for me, i've decided i want to maybe grow some plants. i've read that a 55 gallon is fine with 80 watt bulbs. any one know a good brand of aquarium tops that are cheap yet will work?
