Can i cut an edge of my aquarium decoration?

Question: Can i cut an edge of my aquarium decoration?

(Posted by: Aly K on 2008-03-11 11:02:22)

I just got my freshwater aquarium. I measured everything, set up the stand, and put the gravel filter in. But now i just realized that my 'decoration' is half an inch too tall. It's a really nice decoration and I don't think i can return. However, i was hoping, with the right tools, i could saw/ break/ cut off the ridge and bump that's making it impossible to fit in the tank. Would this be hazardous? Would it be possible? I don't have any fish yet but I'm worried it could cause problems for them. Here is the structure: http:/ / www.petsmart.com/ product/ index.jsp?productId=2752279 &cp=2767036.2769124 &view=all &pg=3 &fbn=Taxonomy%7CD%E9cor &fbc=1 &clickid=topnav_dropdown4_link4 &parentPage=family &keepsr=1#RatingsDetail

If you can't return then go ahead and cut it. Seal the edge you cut with aquarium sealant or PURE silicone and you'll be all set. Good luck with the cutting.

Yes, you can cut off the edge of the decoration, but try removing first in case if the tool you are using slips and hurts the glass or other items in the tank.

Couldn't you just lay it on it's side? On that site it gives length and width measurements, no height measurements. It's 13 inches tall, how big is you tank? Are you sure even if you do cut it, will there be enough room for the fish when you get them?
